Darts 101, or Fabric May Not Be Metal but It Still Needs to be Beaten Into Shape

Not just useful for cosplay/clothing; darts are a critical concept in puppet making, and I frequently use them in plush as well. So do have a look at this helpful explanation!

Here’s my latest creation - a hand-dyed studded Charlotte vest! Charlotte the Sweets Witch is my favourite witch from Madoka, while Mami *was* my favourite character. So after episode 3 I had some serious conflicting feelings. もぐもぐ (mogu mogu) is, of course, munch munch on poor Mami-san. 

I made it by cutting off the sleeves from a denim jacket I got at Vinnie’s, bleaching and dying it flamingo pink (my first time bleaching…it went okay), then filling it with gold and pink spikes. Then I just painted on Charlotte’s cute widdle Murakami-esque face on with acrylic mixed with a fabric medium. Next will be a super kawaii badass bear for a kickass lolita friend.

Pipe-Cleaner Critters by Lauren Ryan

One time I made a fork (or maybe it was a trident, though I never killed anyone with it) out of pipe-cleaners and I never shut up about it for years. Lauren puts most pitiful homemade creations to shame with her lifelike pipe-cleaner creatures, who despite their artificial nature, possess that game-changing fuzziness that makes them so realistic and pettable. I still like my fork, but I actually feel like her animals may attempt to eat me at any moment.

I’ve done it. I’ve achieved the “plush food inspired by fandom” Superfecta (though one is actually a puppet). I’m counting the pie, even though it should probably be plaid or heavily armed or something. It was that or an evil sandwich It’s, you know, interpretive fandom. I’ll go back to my “serious crafter” bunker now. Where I may have to figure out plush shawarma

Slice of Sassy Pie. Made from anti-pill fleece, combination of wool and acrylic felt hand sewn fruit and whipped cream. Measures about 6.5” long x 4.5” across back and 4” tall with toppings (a bit bigger than life).

I will be expanding flavors, but pies with fruit pieces in them, etc., are a more complicated endeavor (don’t want to just change the color and declare it cherry). But I am open to flavor suggestions.

I waited to post these til it was Supernatural Wednesday because I’m a dork. Dean Winchester requests that you not forget the pie.

After a whole lot of popular demand, I’ve brought back dandelions; in a monster version! (Okay, so I ran out of white fur, but I prototyped these guys a while back and thought it was cute in colors.) I sold some at C2E2 but I just finished these! All are about 11” tall in their pot. Stems and leaves are poseable, removable from pot if you want to “replant” it. Faux fur can be smoothed down or fluffed up as you prefer.
