Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes, enjoyed practical jokes. He is said to have once sent a telegram to twelve of his friends, all people of great significance and power. The telegram said: ‘Flee at once, the secret is discovered’. Within 24 hours all twelve had left the country.

The layouts for my typebook for the typeface Baskerville. Its based on the Sherlock Holmes story “The Hound of the Baskervilles”. (I thought I was being pretty clever) I used excerpts from Sr Arthur Conan Doyle’s original text to display the typeface. The whole booklet was created using only the Baskerville typeface, including the hound’s skeleton.

machine for observation and deduction; however, there
was once a day when we finished the case in a scrap factory,
the sunlight of the dawn shines down on him.
Sherlock, who has always been so desperate for the truth
of everything, did nothing but just stand there still, and then
he reached out his hand like he was trying to hold the
sunlight…for me, at that moment, he was merely a child.”—-John Watson
